Eight ordinary cars with supercar engines (list) | GRR

Some of the most absurd road cars of all time are equipped with track-themed engines, such as the Porsche Carrera GT and Lexus LFA. But there is another group of vehicles, those with a larger beast heart-we are talking about ordinary cars with supercar engines. Some remain almost unchanged, some require a little bit of development, but fundamentally, they are the same great engine.

In 1972, Jaguar decided that the in-line six-cylinder XJ series needed some adjustments, so it adopted a 5.3-liter V12, and found its home in the E-type for the first time in 1971 and relocated it. In addition to the XJ12, Frank Raymond Wilton "Lofty" England, the chairman of the new Jaguar, doubled the number of cylinders in the Daimler version, and he drove the original Daimler double six car to participate in the first RAC rally in 1932. He believes that this new car will also be hailed as the "Double Six". In what super sports car did this engine find itself later? XJR15. It may have been rushed to 6.0 liters, but it is largely the same engine.

If you know something about Pagani Zonda C12, you will predict this entry. Yes, this new Italian supercar company in Modena, Ferrari's hometown, chose Mercedes engines. However, it is not a customized item, but a device drawn directly from the W140 Mercedes S600.

The M120 engine was launched in 1991 as a direct result of BMW's V12-powered E32 7 series launched in 1986. The size of BMW surprised Mercedes, so the company's engineering experts began to study some things that would disturb their competitors. Their creation was a 6.0-liter monster, which entered Horacio Pagani's new mid-mounted engine, and then developed to 7.0 and 7.3 liters. It was discontinued in 1998 and replaced by the cleaner M137 V12, which is why the W140 S600 is so popular-where can you find a spare Zonda engine?

Lancia Thema is one of four cars developed on the Type Four platform. The others are Alfa Romeo 164, Fiat Croma and Saab 9000. Thema was released in May 1984, equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a smooth 2.8-liter V6 engine. However, the madness followed in 1986 when Lancia released Thema 8.32, which was equipped with a 3.0-liter Ferrari V8 F105L.

It is slightly different. It uses a transverse crank instead of a flat crank and is marked with the "Ferrari Lancia" logo, but it is still a Ferrari engine. It has a five-speed manual transmission, 205PS (151kW), can reach 62mph in 6.8 seconds, which is three times more expensive than a standard 2.0-liter car. A more interesting fact: 8.32 was the car that Enzo Ferrari chose to drive.

If this list is arranged in order of engine relevance, then the entry will be ranked first. The RS4 was launched in June 2006 and is equipped with a 4.2-liter FSI (Fuel Stratified Injection) engine. The engine is developed with the proprietary technology of the Audi R8 Le Mans Champion prototype (not to be confused with the subsequent R8 on the road) and is very fast. It is hailed as the most interesting fast Audi to date.

In September 2006, Audi launched the company's first road super sports car, the R8, and lowered to the middle is the same 4.2-liter V8. R8 is a dry collector, using a dual-inlet dual-element single air filter with two hot film air mass meters, while RS4 is a wet-collecting type, using a three-inlet single air filter air quality meter with a single hot film . But this is more or less where the differences stop, and they are not very big.

What could be more ordinary than a pickup truck? Yes, now is the time for the Ford F-150 and the first Ford GT. Ford's first F-series truck was introduced in 1948 and was available in inline six or V8 in various capacities. Fast forward to 1997, and we ushered in the tenth-generation F-150, equipped with 4.2-liter V6, 4.6-liter V8 and 5.4-liter V8. Turning the clock forward two years, a new model has been added to the tenth-generation F-150 lineup: Lightning. This has a supercharged 5.4-liter V8. In five years, Ford has sold more than 28,000 units.

Someone at Ford then came up with a brilliant idea to adopt this engine, despite having four valves per cylinder instead of two, and put it in a new mid-engine supercar, whose name and design are The original Le Mans won the successor to the GT40: Ford GT. Compared with Lightning pickups, it is estimated that only 4,038 GTs were produced from 2005 to 2006. At the time they might have sold for less than £100,000 in the UK, but to get one today, you need at least three times that to drive a car.

In the early 2000s, one manufacturer was far ahead of other manufacturers in terms of safety: Volvo. Not only are they literally safe, but while they are largely handsome, they are also safe in other ways. Would you imagine that the seven-seater XC90 is a strange car that shares the power unit with a super sports car? Interestingly, no, because although XC90 sells five-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, and inline six-cylinder twin-turbo gasoline, the pinnacle of the series is the 4.4-liter V8 made by Yamaha, the B8444S, which will adopt all-wheel drive in 2005 The system safely distributes its 315PS (232kW) to the road.

In 2010, Noble knocked on Volvo's door, hoping to cleverly install the engine into its brand new M600. However, for Noble, 315 horsepower is not enough, which is why the V8 in the M600 is not made by Yamaha, but by a company called Motorkraft in the United States. It has changed from naturally aspirated to Garrett double- Turbocharged. The result is a delightful 659PS (485kW), which now all enters the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.

Speaking of internal combustion engines, today Koenigsegg is working in a different world-coveted car prices and engineering and technical business opportunities allow Koenigsegg to do things that were not possible in the early days and design its own engine. Back when Christian von Koenigsegg created CC8S, only one manufacturer could help: Ford.

Koenigsegg purchased a 4.6-liter modular V8 engine, which is the same as the engine in the Lincoln Mk8 or the second-generation Ford Crown Victoria (yes, police interceptor), and it has been fully updated. It uses a dry oil pan and is equipped with forged pistons and connecting rods, larger fuel injectors, ram air intakes, and a centrifugal supercharger with a large intercooler. Most importantly, the cylinder head has been reworked and new camshafts and injectors have been installed, and the capacity has been increased from 4.6 liters to 4.7 liters. result? Up to 655PS (482kW), more than twice that of Lincoln.

Well, the BMW M5 is not an ordinary car like the Kia Rio, but it is not a super sports car either. What is a supercar is the BMW M1.

In 1978, BMW introduced the M1, a rare mid-mounted engine, only 453 were produced in three years. It is powered by an M88 3.5-liter straight six-cylinder engine with a power of 277PS (204kW). Seven years later, in February 1985, the first BMW M5 was unveiled at the Amsterdam Motor Show. It was based on the already fast 535i, but with some mechanical changes to make it more agile. It also has a 2.5-liter inline six-cylinder engine, but it is not an M88, but an M88/3, which is basically the great-grandson of the M1 engine. The power jumped from 277PS to 286PS (210kW). In order to make full use of the engine, BMW installed it on the M635 CSi and the 745i sold only in South Africa. How we would like to see a modern mid-engine BMW equipped with an M8 engine.
